Forecast Analysis

Today, expect consistent surf in the 1.6-3.2ft range. The morning will see favorable westerly winds, which are ideal offshore for Loch Arbour, providing a period of clean wave faces as the modest SE swell approaches the L-shaped jetty. This brief window will allow the jetty's refraction to potentially create some defined, steep sections, performing best through low to mid tide. However, winds are forecast to shift to the SE later in the day at 10 mph. This direct onshore wind will significantly degrade wave quality, creating textured, disorganized faces and reducing the structural integrity offered by the jetty, despite the consistent swell. The SE swell direction itself is not optimal for the jetty's characteristic wedge, which performs best with more northerly swell components.

Tomorrow, wave heights will see a slight increase, ranging from 2.8-3.5ft. Conditions will be impacted by steady northerly winds. With a prevailing SE swell, these N winds will be cross-shore to slightly onshore, leading to textured wave faces and a general lack of clean, peeling lines. While the L-shaped jetty at Loch Arbour typically offers more structure than surrounding open beaches, the combination of a non-ideal SE swell and persistent N wind will limit the wave's ability to hold shape and power. Expect crumbly sections rather than well-formed waves, though the higher wave energy might still provide some rideable sections, particularly around the jetty.

Saturday's forecast indicates wave heights between 2.1-3.1ft. The primary concern for wave quality will be the steady NE winds. These winds will be strongly onshore against the expected SE swell. This direct onshore fetch will severely chop up the wave faces, resulting in very disheveled and wind-affected conditions. The L-shaped jetty, which normally can maintain some cleanliness, will struggle against such persistent onshore flow from the northeast, diminishing its ability to refract and groom the swell. Wave power will be significantly reduced due to the constant wind interaction, producing fat, mushy sections.

Sunday will see the smallest waves of the forecast, settling in the 2.0-2.4ft range. Winds are predicted to shift from N to SW. The initial northerly wind will again create textured faces similar to Saturday, but as it shifts to the southwest, there's potential for a brief period where the SW wind could offer some grooming against a SE swell. However, with the very modest wave heights, any improvement in surface texture from the shifting wind may not translate into significant wave quality. The small swell combined with shifting, less than ideal wind directions suggests a day of less defined, weaker waves, even with the jetty's influence. Conditions will likely be marginal, with very little push to the waves.
