Privacy Policy

This policy covers njbodyboarding.com and the NJBB mobile app, both run by the New Jersey Bodyboarding Club.

The short version. The mobile app collects nothing at all — there are no accounts and nothing you do in it is sent to us. The website uses Google Analytics for Firebase to count visits, and if you place a store order we keep the details needed to send it to you. We do not sell anything about you to anyone.

The mobile app

The NJBB app has no accounts and no sign-in. It does not collect, transmit or store any personal information about you, and it contains no analytics or advertising software.

Your settings — your home spot, saved beaches, theme and alert preferences — are held only on your own device. They are never sent to us, they are not backed up to any server, and they are deleted when you uninstall the app.

The app requests surf forecast data from njbodyboarding.com. Those requests are anonymous: they say which beach is being looked up, and nothing about who is asking. As with any internet request, our server sees the originating IP address in the course of answering it.

The website

njbodyboarding.com uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the site is used — which pages are visited, roughly how many people visit, and from what kind of device. This service assigns a random identifier to your browser and derives an approximate location from your IP address. That information goes to Google as well as to us. It is not used to identify you personally and we do not attempt to link it to you.

The site sets a small number of cookies needed for it to function, such as remembering whether a menu is open. These do not track you between sites.

Store orders

If you order from the club store, we keep what is needed to fulfil it: your name, email address, shipping address, and the items and status of your order.

Payment is completed outside this website, through a payment link sent to you. We do not receive, process or store your card details at any point.

We use your email address to send you information about your own order. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Signing up for a contest

If you put your name down to ride in a contest or to help run one, we keep what you gave us: your name, your email address, which of the two you are offering, any jobs you said you could take, and whatever you wrote in the optional boxes.

That list goes to the club and nowhere else. A person reads it when the contest is being planned, so a reply comes from somebody rather than automatically. You are not added to a mailing list, and we do not use the list for anything except running the event you signed up for.

Messages you send us

The contact form keeps your name, your email address and what you wrote. It is stored so somebody in the club can read it and answer; there is no automatic email behind it.

We keep messages so a conversation can be picked up where it left off. Ask us and we will delete yours.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your information. We do not run advertising. We do not use your information to build a profile of you, and nothing in the mobile app tracks you.

Removing your information

You can ask us to delete anything we hold about you, and we will do so unless we are required to keep it for accounting purposes. Email us at the address below and say what you would like removed.

For the mobile app there is nothing to request: uninstalling it removes everything it has stored, because none of it ever left your device.

Children

Neither the website nor the app is directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Club events are open to all ages, but participation is arranged in person rather than through this site.

Changes

If we add features that collect more than this — member accounts, for instance — we will update this page before those features go live, and change the date below.
